We have a single storey 25 beds purpose built residence with large car parking facilities situated 2 kilometers from Douglas village and 6 kilometers from Cork city close to all amenities. In 2016 a state of the art large extension was completed incorporating 10 new bedrooms, treatment room, laundry, offices,staff room, nurses station and enclosed garden. About Darraglynn Nursing Home

Darraglynn Nursing Home limited is a family run business founded by the late Mary Lucey in 1986. It is a 25 beds private nursing home situated 2 kilometers from Douglas village and 6 kilometers from Cork city close to all amenities.

It is currently managed by her daughters Margaret O Sullivan & Mary Conroy, who carry on the family tradition of providing a living environment that as far as possible replicates residents' previous lifestyle; to ensure that residents live in a comfortable, harmonious & safe environment.

We strive to preserve and promote individuality and independence to all our residents. We will achieve this through programs of activity designed to encourage mental alertness and social interaction.

Meet the Team

All of our staff are appropriately qualified to deliver the highest quality care. When recruiting staff we look for reliability, integrity, patience, and professionalism. Our staff complete an induction process and have mandatory training in Health and Safety , Manual Handling , Fire Drills, First Aid, Food Hygiene and Safety. We continue to educate our staff keeping them up to date on the latest developments. Our Health Care Assistants are FETAC level 5 trained

Mary Conroy

Mary is the daughter of the late Mary Lucey, the founder of Darraglynn Nursing Home. Mary has over 35 years in General Nursing, A/E nursing, Gynaecology, Surgery, and 15 years as a clinical Nurse Specialist in Tissue Viability. In 2003 Mary worked in St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne Australia specializing in Neuroscience. Mary was Assistant Director of Nursing in the South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital. Mary and has many years experience in the Gerontology in Darraglynn Nursing Home.

Margaret O Sullivan

Margaret is also the daughter of the founder of Darraglynn Nursing Home. Margaret has over 26 years experience in management in Darraglynn mentored well by her mother Mary Lucey. Margaret is actively involved in the day to day running of the home. Her primary role is as financial controller, purchasing officer, and refurbishment of the home. Margaret's background is in clerical administration.

Sheena Varghese

Sheena Varghese has Bsc Nursing (General nursing and midwifery) and the diploma in management.Currently doing postgraduation(gerontologist) in Ucc,Cork.She has12 years of nursing experience including the last 9 years of gerontology( care of the elderly) experience in Ireland.Sheena was trained in Karnataka State of India and came to Ireland in 2007,securing a staff nurse job in Darraglynn Nursing Home Limited.Sheena has more than 3 years of management experience as a deputy person in charge in another residential care setting.Sheena was appointed as director of nursing in darraglynn Nursing Home Limited in September 2016.

Nutrition and Diet

Our chefs Togi and Rita are passionate about nutrition  and make the dining experience a treat. They introduce new menus of traditional and worldwide cuisine that enhances the palate of the older adult. They deliver through their catering skills not only a nutritional element but an understanding of the key principles of food delivery in a therapeutic enjoyable and colorful fashion.

Care at Darraglynn

We hope to make your stay a happy one, where resident's individual needs are met. Our staff will ensure that you will have a safe and comfortable stay. We appreciate that coming into a care facility is daunting and stressful for many people and their relatives, our friendly staff will ensure the transition will be as smooth as possible. Should you wish to bring some personal effects e.g. photos, paintings, your favorite chair, this is encouraged within reason.
Nurses and Health Care Assistants will be sensitive to the Resident's ever-changing needs. Such needs may be medical/therapeutic , cultural, psychological, spiritual, emotional and social. Residents are encouraged to participate in the development of their individualized care plans in which the involvement of family and friends may be appropriate and is greatly valued. These core values of care, are fundamental to the philosophy of our home.
All residents have a choice of GP and Pharmacist . The home collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to provide holistic care for all our residents.

Complaint Procedures and the Ombudsman

We hope complaints will be few but we take complaints seriously and endveour to learn from their outcome.We will deal with your complaint in a fair and impartial manner.The Nursing home has a complaint officer Mrs Sheena Varghese(D.O.N.) and a resident advocate MS.Jean Kirby

If you have complained to us and you are not satisfied with our decision on your complaint, it is open to you to contact the office of the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman provides an impartial, independent and free service. By law, the Ombudsman can examine complaints about any of our administrative actions or procedures as well as delays or inactions in our dealings with you
